As you may know, I spent Christmas back at home in Sydney with my family. Every time I’m back I can’t help but fall more in love with the city and my country! In the never ending quest to seek out the best coffee spots, I ventured to the Grounds of Alexandria to check out what all the fuss was about. Boy am I glad I dropped by because this former warehouse is now one of my favourite spaces in Sydney. It pretty much encompasses everything that makes me happy in one trendy 1800 square metered space. Great food, 7 bean house blend coffee, top notch baristas, beautiful green outdoor seating, a ridiculously beautiful florist, freshly made lemonade, a stand selling all sorts of berries and pastries… wait did I mention that they grow a lot of their vegetables and herbs on site?
It’s no surprise that such a cool place is in high demand, so be prepared to wait a while if you’re there to lunch. There’s a restaurant indoors, but if you’re after something simple (like the “smashed avocado”), you can order outdoors and sit in the communal tables in the garden whilst sipping on your perfectly steamed cappuccino.
Take a walk around the garden and say hello to their resident pig (Kevin Bacon) and sheep (Bradley) who were once in the spotlight after being kidnapped in late 2013, during a midnight break in. Rest assured they are safe and back at the Grounds after their whereabouts was confirmed by an anonymous tip off.
Big thumbs up from me, I’ll definitely be dropping by again when I’m back home!
