Do go chasing waterfalls
This year I told myself that I would travel more, both abroad and within the Philippines, and I’m happy to say that in the last 11 months, I have met and even exceeded my expectations on the quest to discover more corners of this world. What I didn’t expect was to find this much beauty so close to the madness of Manila. Usually when I want to get away from the city I’ll take a short trip to Tagaytay or Batangas, and until now I hadn’t really given Laguna a chance. Well, turns out that I was missing somewhere special!
Here are a few photos from the adventure that my Fujifilm family and I embarked on last week, where we trekked through Jurrasic Park-esque rainforests to swim in crystal clear waters.
A 4AM start in Makati...
In order to beat the traffic, we left Manila at the crack of dawn (well, earlier actually). Running on a few hours sleep, we met up with everyone in Makati at 4am before spending over 2 hours in the van heading towards Laguna. Shortly after arriving in Majayjay (pronoucned ma-hay-hay, but let’s be honest it’s more fun calling it MaJAYJAY), we set out on an uphill trek to Bukal Falls. It’s a pretty decent hike, around 5kms there and back, and it can be quite steep at times. You may wanna skip leg day at the gym if you’re planning to go!
Frankly, I wasn’t expecting too much of the place. I was quite happy just being surrounded by nature again, in the wonderful company of the other Fujifilm XT10 ambassadors. And the funny thing is, you can’t see the waterfall until you turn a corner at the very last moment. So you can imagine how floored I was when I looked up to see this gigantic, gushing waterfall surrounded by the most lush greenery. You should have heard me whooping with glee as I announced that I was jumping right in. The water was by far the clearest I’ve ever swam in – I can only liken it to swimming in bottled Evian. You could literally swim and drink at the same time, if you’re into that sort of thing. I may have sampled some of the water as I jumped in… It was FRESH!
Thank you to Fufjifilm PH
for a wonderful day trip into the wild! These photos were taken with a Fujifilm XT10 (my main camera) & Fujifilm XPro2. For those considering joining the Fujifilm clan, there’s a nation wide promo on the XT10 camera until December 31 where you get 6000 pesos off the retail price. Do your research as different stores have their own discounts on top of this offer!
