For an extrovert like me, it’s pretty strange to crave time alone. I’m usually energised by the energy of others, feeding off good conversations and new friendships. Something changed just over a year ago when I started my own business, which required 120% of my time and energy. Running a start up (with my co-founder who I now call one of my best friends) has been the most wonderful experience, but I often think about how i can l better learn the art of time management and balance. Now more than ever, I find myself wanting alone time. Time to rest my body and my mind, time to separate work from rest, time to settle the millions of thoughts that cross my mind on a daily basis. I’ve come to fully appreciate what was once a little daunting – spending quality time with my self.
A few weeks ago I went back to Bohol for my friend’s wedding and spent a much needed couple of days in Donatela resort. I’ve been to the island a couple of times but hadn’t heard much about Donatela, perhaps because it was once a nature sanctuary. It turned out to be my favourite stay in Bohol so far; the resort spreads over a huge 7.5 hectares, with only a total of 12 villas on the property (no apartment style buildings or rooms). I imagine it would be the perfect spot for a secluded wedding. I barely ran into other guests during my stay – it was exactly the sort of space and privacy I was looking for at this season in my life. My favourite part of the day was waking up early in the morning, walking down the winding pebbled road lined with bougainvilleas and traveller’s palms, and having my soy cappuccino down at the open area by the water. Whether it was reading by the pool in my villa, or taking a sneaky afternoon nap in the room (which was furnished more like someone’s house rather than a resort), or heading over the spa – I think I filled my quota of “alone time” pretty well!
My stay at Donatela was in collaboration with Hitchbird (the largest wedding website for couples to plan and book their dream destination wedding in Asia). Dontatella is an obvious choice for those who want to get hitched in a secluded oasis by the sea, surrounded by greenery and away from the busier resorts that may be a little busier with tourists coming in and out. Hitchbird have thousands of partner venues and vendors and often provide special rates and benefits – so make sure to book your destination wedding through them!
