I will never get over how amazing coconuts smell. They remind me of summer, the beach and tropical goodness. This week I decided to celebrate them in their full glory by making a beautiful home made body scrub with some coconut oil & sugar!
As well as saving you a couple of bucks at the beauty counter, making your own skincare products ensures that you know exactly what goes into them. Using natural ingredients without the use of chemicals is particularly great for people with sensitive skin. It also makes a lovely gift for someone if you’re looking to make a present with a personal touch. For home made scrubs I usually go for a ratio of 2 parts sugar to 1 part oil. Ginger is another smell that I adore so I infused some in the coconut oil and also added a squeeze of lime. Use the scrub on damp skin and gently exfoliate by using circular movements. You’ll come out of the shower feeling like a goddess.
- ½ cup coconut oil
- 1 cup of coconut sugar
- 2 cm piece of ginger
- juice of half a lime
- Gently heat the coconut oil in a pan on low heat.
- Finely slice the ginger and add to the coconut oil.
- Stir continuously for 10 minutes and then strain the oil through a sieve.
- Combine the coconut oil, sugar & lime juice and store in an air tight jar.
