You may have seen on my social media that I recently took a short albeit special trip to Bangkok to view the latest Remix collection from Swarovski. I think the aspect of the collection that connected with me the most is the way it allows us to explore multiple styles without having to constantly buy or add to our wardrobes. We live in a world of consumption where the things we own never seem to be enough. Although I’m far from perfect when it comes to sustainability and conscious fashion, I’m always happy to explore ways in which I can contribute to being mindful of this….
Considering all this, I shouldn’t have been surprised to read in Dr Murad’s book Conquering Cultural Stress that skincare is 80% from the inside and only 20% topical. But I was surprised at the honesty, because this was coming from a dermatologist who would clearly have a vested interest in pushing his products. I was also pleasantly surprised before my facial at the Murad Spa (in Rustan’s Makati), when I was handed some flyers with recipes I can make at home to promote healthy skin. I even joked about whether they were going to make me meditate during my facial, and guess what… there were some breathing techniques thrown in there (which were admittedly, very relaxing). I love that more people are embracing holistic wellness and enjoying the benefits!
Here are 3 of the Murad recipes that I ended up making at home. I liked these in particular because they are easy to make and the ingredients are readily available in the Philippines….
Why do you travel? Is it to seek the thrill of being in a new place, or to escape the stress and monotony of a routine you have back home? Do you leave in search of new friends, culinary delights, or just to step out of your comfort zone?…
On the 15th of June last year,
around 10 in the evening, an email popped up in my inbox. It was another work inquiry. This time from a social entrepreneur based in San Fransisco, who was looking for someone to be the face of her jewellery and accessory start up. Hmm. Sounds interesting, I thought. Little did I know, how significant this email would be in shaping the next year of my life….
Hey girls (and boys),
I’ve been wanting to post about my latest find in the beauty department! Just before I left Manila for the holidays, I was invited to the launch of the Sleek Make Up counter at SM Makati. I hadn’t heard of the brand but it turns out that it had already developed a cult following here in the Philippines. This make up brand from the UK is known for its quality products (think MAC standard) but reasonable prices. With this sort of accolade I was eager to test the products out and check for myself.
There were three products which stood out to me in particular. Let’s start with the eye shadow palette (Au Naturel 601). The colours are very me (loads of browns & neutrals), with 8 in matte and 4 with shimmer. They were surprisingly well pigmented with not too much fall out. Apart from the make up it self I really like the packaging – the palette is really thin and light. Perfect for sliding in your bag. Its best feature however, is the huge mirror! So handy to have around. Last time I checked this goes for 731 pesos on luxola.com.
I also really liked the highlighting palette (Precious Metals). There’s 4 different colours (3 cream and one powder/gel), and they feel beautiful and silky on the skin. Apply the tops of your cheekbones, arches of the eyebrows, essential use as your regular highlighter but also works well for the body (collar bones and shoulders).
My favourite product comes last: the Sleek Lip creams and glosses. As you can see, the lip creams (Matte Me) become completely matte – I mean it literally doesn’t budge – after a couple of minutes. I also find it really easily to apply as it has the consistency of a gloss at the beginning, so it glides on easier than a regular lipstick. My favourite shade is Birthday Suit (photo above).
So there you go. Overall I would recommend the products, particularly at their price point (have a look at luxola or visit the SM Makati counter for pricing). I also think my mum is stealing my Matte me so I’ll have to go pick up another one!
Afraid of using coloured eyeshadow? I was too! Here’s another beauty tutorial for those who have brown eyes like me. In this video, my friend Xeng shows us how to apply an emerald colour on our lids. Check out Calyxta for more tutorials and for all things make up!
Hi all! I recently teamed up with my friends from Calyxta to put together a series of make up tutorials for you! The make up artist helping me with this first video is a friend of mine called Xeng, who is fantastic, and has a few tricks up her sleeve to help me achieve a natural look but with a pop of colour. I’m normally afraid of using anything but brown, neutral tones on my eyelids. I’m not so crazy about coloured eyeshadows! However, I have to say I really liked the pink used in this video. What do you think?
You may know that I’m a huge fan of using oils as part of my skin and hair care regimen. A while back I wrote about my love for rosehip oil, and its many benefits for skin. The latest oil I’ve been testing out is from an Aussie company called ECO Modern Essentials, who have a bunch of products which are made from natural ingredients. Always get excited to try brands back from home! I used their Erase Oil for a few weeks and here are my thoughts:…
Hello there cyber world! I know it’s been a while since my last post. I’ve been insanely busy with loads of exciting projects – hosting live events, writing for magazines and filming videos for new clients… trying to enjoy it all without getting too overwhelmed! Unfortunately, the chaos resulted in less time being spent here on my blog – but I have so much to share with you all. I want to kick things off with this entry about one of my favourite beauty products I’ve been using at the moment – rosehip oil.
As you know, I’m always on the hunt for natural beauty products. My latest find is Hello Hair – a hydrating hair mask which I stumbled across on Instagram. So glad I did because I’m really enjoying it so far (there’s about 4 applications worth in one pouch so I should get a few more treatments out of there).
What really excited me about this product is that there are no weird chemicals and the hydrating effects come from all the natural oils it contains (coconut oil, pomegranate seed oil & grape seed oil to name a few). Also double yay for being cruelty free!…
